Fantasy Editorial Review
In this editorial review of the DVD release of "Wicked," audiences are treated to a spectacular adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical that reimagines the story of the Wicked Witch of the West. The film features an impressive ensemble cast, highlighted by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande-Butera as Galinda. Initial skepticism regarding Grande-Butera's casting quickly dissipates as her powerful four-octave range leaves a lasting impact, showcasing her ability to embody the character of Galinda fully. Critics have applauded the performances across the board, particularly noting the charisma of Erivo and the charming presence of Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. The film artfully balances humor and emotional depth, with numerous moments that elicit laughter and tears, such as during the emotionally charged Ozdust Ball sequence. The writing is tight and engaging, ensuring that each moment on screen serves a purpose, making the lengthy run-time of 162 minutes feel brisk and rewarding. In an era saturated with reboots and sequels, "Wicked" distinguishes itself with originality and heartfelt storytelling that resonates across generations. Many viewers find that it strikes the right note for family-friendly appeal, making it suitable for all ages. Furthermore, the film pays homage to its Broadway roots while introducing modern sensibilities, much to the delight of long-time fans and newcomers alike. Overall, "Wicked" is rendered as a must-see cinematic experience that captivates its audience, leading many to reflect on deeper themes of friendship, acceptance, and the nuances of good versus evil. **
