Başta uzak durmanız gerektiğini düşünür ama bir kez tanıyıp hayatınıza kattıklarını gördükten sonra o insandan vazgeçemez hale gelirsiniz. Benim hayatımda iki, bilemediniz üç kişi vardır böyle ve bunlardan biri de hiç şüphesiz elinizde tuttuğunuz kitabın yazarı İzzet Çapa'dır. İzzet belki hatırlar belki hatırlamaz, kendisiyle ilk kez 1980'lerin ilk yarısında, o zamanların en popüler diskoteği Regine'de karşılaştım. DJ kabininde, boyunun yetmediği bir pikaptaki plaklarla milleti coşturmakla meşguldü. Bizi tanıştıran da ortak arkadaşımız, canımın içi Aslı Atay'dı. O sıralarda İzzet muhtemelen orta mektep talebesiydi ama benim ondan önce de tanıdığım abilerinin izinde, İstanbul'un eğlence hayatına Şamdan'larla imza atmaya başlamıştı. Yaşam tarzlarımızın farklılığı nedeniyle İzzet'le bir sonraki görüşmemiz yıllar sonra oldu. İzzet artık İzzet Çapa olmuştu; boynuz kulağı, İzzet abilerini geçmişti. İstanbul'u eğlendirmek, yedirip içirmek onun işiydi. Geceleri karşılaşıyor, ufaktan sohbet ediyorduk ama henüz dost değildik. Yollarımızın tam olarak kesişip küçük sohbetlerin büyük bir dostluğa dönüşmesinin nedeni İzzet'in işi değil, uğraşı oldu. İzzet Çapa bir yandan da ailesinin yapısı gereği, entelektüel tarafının güçlü olduğunu gösteren yazılar yazıyor, röportajlar yapıyordu ve bu da benim ilgimi çekiyordu. Ancak bu işler kıyıda köşede kalıyor, ulaşması gereken geniş kitlelere ulaşamıyordu. Aradım ve İzzet gel, görüşelim, dedim. Kendisini eğlence adamından müthiş bir medya karakterine dönüştürmeyi başardı. Zaten ne iş yaparsa yapsın en iyisini yapmaya kafa yoran, takıntılı bir kişiliği vardır.
